ABC with kind words. Two children under the letter blocks A, B and C

Letters become more interesting when they’re about you. An ABC of kind words gives your child both letters and positive words about who they are.

Start with the name

Your child’s own name is the most exciting word in the world. Find your child’s first letter, and find kind words that start with the same letter: E could be empathetic, energetic and easygoing.

A kind word for every letter

  • A: active, attentive, amazing
  • B: brave, bright, bubbly
  • G: gentle, generous, good
  • H: helpful, happy, honest
  • K: kind, keen, kindhearted
  • M: musical, merry, mindful
  • S: sweet, strong, silly
  • V: valiant, vibrant, very caring

Play with the words

  • Letter hunt: Find things in the living room that start with the letter of the day.
  • Kind word chain: Take turns saying a kind word about each other, in alphabetical order.
  • Letter of the week: Choose a letter and a kind word for the week, and look for examples in everyday life.

Explain the words

Many kind words are hard. What does responsible mean? A short explanation and an example bring the word to life: “Responsible means taking care of something. You were responsible when you fed the cat.”
